Seagate 4TB GoFlex Desk External Drive
0Need some extra storage space? How about a lot of extra storage space? Well, it looks like Seagate has decided to push external storage up a notch with the announcement of its new GoFlex Desk drive with a capacity of 4TB. It’s not clear if we’re looking at a single 4TB drive, of if Seagate has fitted two 2TB in the re-designed enclosure.
The new enclosure looks a bit like a big, black monolith and it’s only a small improvement over the old design. That said, it’s an external hard drive and we’d rather have function over form in this case. In terms of connectivity it looks like the new GoFlex Desk models will work with the old dock, although the front of the dock appears to have received a small makeover as well and seems to have become more squared off to go with the overall redesign.
The PC version of the new GoFlex Desk will come with USB 3.0 connectivity, which of course is backwards compatible with USB 2.0. The Mac version on the other hand sports FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 connectivity, with no word on a possible Thunderbolt adapter. The PC version also comes with pre-loaded backup software and both models should be available this month for US$249.99.
